HVAC and Refrigeration

Commercial Refrigeration

Repeated alarms, poor temperature recovery, damaged seals, unusual icing or unreliable operation can prompt an assessment. New product lines, increased turnover or a changed layout can also alter the requirement for existing equipment.

Tell us what needs doing

Record the symptom and timing before ordering a replacement. Product loading, airflow, ambient conditions, controls and component faults can create different repair needs. A display reading alone does not describe the complete condition of the unit.

What the work can include

The work can include assessing cabinets and associated plant, investigating faults, carrying out defined servicing, replacing components or preparing an equipment replacement scope. Cleaning, drainage, electrical interfaces and removal of old equipment are identified where included.

Outputs explain the findings, work performed, relevant operating checks and any outstanding requirement. Refrigerant information and applicable service records remain linked to the equipment so subsequent decisions use a traceable history.

Important decisions

Repair or replace. Consider fault extent, parts support, refrigerant, equipment condition and whether the unit still suits its duty. A replacement should be selected for the actual product and environment.

Service or refrigerant work. General upkeep and work on the refrigeration circuit have different requirements. Relevant activities involving F gas need appropriate qualifications under government guidance.

Equipment and stock. A working unit does not confirm the suitability of stock affected earlier. The operator's food-safety decisions remain separate; see the Food Standards Agency's business chilling guidance.

Assessment and preparation

Send the premises address, unit make and model, visible fault information and a description of the products stored. Explain when the problem began and whether it follows restocking, cleaning or another change.

Agree space for attendance, movement of goods and permission for associated electrical or drainage work. If the unit belongs to a tenant or supplier, establish who approves the repair before materials or replacement equipment are ordered.

How the work proceeds

We agree access and the initial assessment, identify what the evidence supports and explain the repair options. The owner or authorising manager decides on additional work where the findings extend the original scope.

At completion, the user receives the operating position and any maintenance or follow-up requirement. Installation of replacement equipment includes the agreed connection and removal work, rather than leaving those practical tasks assumed between the property and supplier.

Cost, timing and disruption

The price depends on the problem, parts availability, unit condition and access to the equipment. The extent of cleaning, making good or associated connections can change a seemingly straightforward replacement.

Confirm whether collection of the old unit and any further visit are included. Agree when the business can release the equipment for work and who will receive the result, including any need to check performance before reloading it.

Sector applications

For hospitality, the repair needs to fit trading and food-handling routines. For managing agents, establish equipment ownership and the landlord's responsibility for associated services. Different products require different storage briefs.

The wider service and project range supports all sectors, including retail, FM companies, healthcare, veterinary premises, education, leisure, construction, public and community premises, transport, energy and utilities, residential blocks, social housing and secure estates. Scope follows the function and requirements of the actual property.

Local coverage

We cover Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham and the Tees Valley, including Berwick-upon-Tweed, Alnwick, Morpeth, Hexham, Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham, Darlington, Hartlepool, Stockton-on-Tees and Middlesbrough. See the full locations directory for the towns and surrounding areas.

Provide the full property address and access details, including any shared area or delivery restriction that affects the visit.

Frequently asked questions

Does a warm cabinet always need more refrigerant?

No. Several faults and operating conditions can affect performance. Refrigerant work follows diagnosis and the appropriate technical requirements.

Can a display cabinet be used for any chilled product?

The equipment must suit the product and use. Check the unit's intended duty and the operator's storage requirements before changing what it holds.

Is stock automatically safe once cooling is restored?

No. The operator needs to assess affected stock through the applicable procedures. Equipment repair and the product decision are separate outcomes.

Can the business keep trading during the repair?

That depends on the affected equipment and available alternatives. Agree access, stock movement and the operating restriction before attendance; avoid assuming the unit can remain in use throughout.

Read what an HVAC maintenance contract includes and what condition-based maintenance means. Refrigeration tasks still need to be defined against the particular equipment.
