Veterinary Safety Flooring at Robson & Prescott, Alnwick

The existing flooring and parts of the timber substrate had deteriorated. The replacement needed to provide a hygienic, robust clinical finish, turn up at wall edges, accommodate fire-door clearance and remain capable of future removal without unnecessarily damaging the original floor.

The documented flooring system included:

1. careful removal of existing vinyl and necessary skirting;
2. inspection and preparation of the timber subfloor;
3. screeding within the annex;
4. a new plywood layer secured with pocket screws rather than permanently bonded to the original floor;
5. adhesive applied to the new boards;
6. safety vinyl with capping and cove former to create turned-up wall edges;
7. detailed trimming at edges and corners;
8. control of the finished build-up to protect adjacent fire-door operation;
9. protection and cleaning of the work area.

The project progressed through quotation, formal approval and a facilities-management delivery route. The completion evidence records 136 m2 of Polyflor Ultra PUR flooring across the main practice, annex and radiation room. It also confirms removal of the existing flooring, screeding in the annex, plywood preparation throughout, skirting removal and localised plastering. Dated completion photographs show the delivered finish.

The completed installation provided a purpose-designed safety-floor finish for a working veterinary environment and dealt with the practical constraints of an older substrate, wall-edge hygiene detailing and fire-door clearance.
