Environmental and Sustainability Policy

Participating Businesses seek to:

1. use energy, water, materials and fuel efficiently;
2. prevent waste before considering reuse, recycling, recovery and disposal;
3. select responsible products, suppliers and delivery methods;
4. control emissions, spills, noise, dust and hazardous materials;
5. protect habitats and local environments affected by work;
6. manage waste through authorised routes with appropriate records;
7. consider whole-life cost and environmental impact; and
8. support customers' practical sustainability objectives.

Environmental risks are considered during quotation, procurement, mobilisation and delivery. Controls reflect the location, materials, waste streams, transport, legal duties and potential for pollution or nuisance.

Environmental and carbon claims must be specific, supportable and not misleading. Targets and performance figures are published only when a defined scope, methodology, baseline and reliable evidence are available.

Participating Businesses review environmental incidents, consumption information where available, waste records, supplier performance and improvement opportunities. Priorities are proportionate to material impacts and business influence.

Each business identifies environmental aspects it can control or influence, including energy and fuel use, travel, purchasing, waste, water, noise, dust, emissions, hazardous materials, pollution risk and impacts arising from suppliers. Legal and customer requirements are considered during planning. Higher-risk work has task controls and emergency arrangements for spills, releases and improper disposal.

The waste hierarchy is applied: prevent, reduce, reuse, repair, recycle, recover and dispose as a last resort. Waste is transferred only through appropriate routes, with duty-of-care information and evidence retained where required. Hazardous waste, refrigerants, electrical waste and other controlled streams receive specialist handling.

Environmental claims must be specific, supportable and not omit important qualifications. A business does not describe itself, a service or product as carbon neutral, net zero, sustainable or environmentally friendly without a defined basis and reliable evidence. Where carbon information is developed, organisational and operational boundaries, methodology, reporting period, data limitations and use of offsets are disclosed.

Objectives are proportionate to material impacts and may address route planning, efficient equipment, responsible materials, packaging, waste segregation, supplier engagement and prevention of pollution. Progress is recorded and reviewed; targets are revised when evidence, operations or legal requirements change.

This policy does not claim ISO 14001 certification or a verified net-zero status.
