Store-Opening Checklist

Confirm the agreed project handover, outstanding defects, relevant system information and operating instructions. Identify who accepts the premises and who follows up unfinished work. A finished appearance does not establish that services and access arrangements are ready.

Tell us what needs doing

Before daily trading

Follow the store’s own opening procedure. Check for visible damage, leaks, obstructed routes and reported faults affecting normal use. Refer hazards or unavailable facilities through the responsible manager rather than treating a ticked checklist as authority to open.

Keep useful records

Record the location and effect of defects, any temporary arrangements and the person notified. Connect recurring faults to the maintenance record so the issue is investigated rather than repeatedly noted.

Questions to resolve

Is this the same as a compliance certificate?

No. A readiness checklist helps organise observations and decisions. It does not replace the assessments, tests or approvals relevant to the premises.

Who decides whether the shop opens?

The authorised operator makes that decision using the relevant safety and operational information. Contractors provide the information required by their scope.
